Present for the
teacher
The teacher cannot
go to school today.
Mrs. Colón says she
caught a cold.
Quentin says, "Let's
visit our teacher this Saturday. Maybe we can chase that cold
away!"
Carla, Quino, and
Tupaq love his idea!
They plan to give
their teacher a surprise.
They start
collecting money for a present. Quentin says, "I have four
quarters in this box. That's a dollar."
Carla says, "I have
ten dimes in my shoes.
That's a dollar, too."
Quino says," I have
one hundred pennies in my book bag. That's another dollar.
Now we have three!"
Tupaq says, "I have
two dollar bills in my piggy bank. Now we have five dollars!"
The children run to
the store together.
On their way, they
meet the doctor.
They say, "Hello,
Doc!"
They also meet some
friends who are having a picnic. They all say, "Hello!"
Then they go into
the store. They see candy. chocolate cake, cans of fruit, and a
small quilt with a picture of a kangaroo.
The children use all
five dollars. The next day, they will go to their teacher's home.
The following day,
when children arrive at their teacher's house, Tupaq says, "Ssshh!
Let's be quiet! She's sick."
Then they knock on
her door.
Seeing all the
presents, the teacher really is surprised! She thanks her
students. Then she coughs and smiles.
