Story

Letters and Sounds
When C and G are followed by the
vowels e, i, or y, they usually have a soft
sound. When they are followed by the vowels a, o,

Types of Sentences
There are four types of sentences, each with a
special job.
Statements state facts and always end
with a period (.).
Example: We want our
teacher back.
Questions ask for an answer and end
with a question mark (?).
Example: What can I do for
you?
Commands express orders or requests.
They ask the listener to do something.
They end with a period (.) or an exclamation point (!).
Example: Find her, please!
Exclamations show strong emotion and
end with an exclamation point (!).
Example: Thank you!

Clear Water
Clear water is about
two boys, Andy and Alex, who help save a river. They live in a
quiet village in Canada. Then, a chemical company builds a
factory near the river. Chemicals from the factory pollute the
river. Many fish and animals die.
Andy and Alex are
very angry and they write a letter to the company. The company
doesn't answer. The boys have a meeting with other people from
the village, and they all protest outside the factory. During
the protest, television stations come and interview the boys.
Finally, the company listens and stops polluting the river.
