19.  Mixed ratio.  Express each of the following ratios.  How many

17.  a)  35 to 10.  35 is three and a half times 10.

19.  b)  20 to 8.   20 is two and a half times 8.

19.  c)  22 to 4.  22 is five and a half times 4.

19. d)  5 to 2.   5 is two and a half times 2.

19. e)  7 to 2.   7 is three and a half times 2.

19. h)  50 to 40   50 is one and a quarter times 40.

20.  Percent:  Ratio to 100.  Each percent expresses what ratio?

Express each of the following in the language of ratio.  Use a complete sentence.

22.  Carl pays $500 a month for rent; he earns $2500 a month.

A fifth of Carl's income goes for rent.

23.  Joanne earned $2000; she paid $400 in taxes.

A fifth of what Joanne earned went for taxes.

24.  In a class of 30 pupils, there were 10 A's.

A third of the class got A.

25.  Out of 120 people surveyed, 20 responded No.

A sixth of those surveyed responded No.

26.  The population of Eastville is 60,000, while the population of

This month's bill is two and half times last month's.

34.  Sabina makes $36,000 a year, while Clara makes only $24,000.

Sabina makes one and a half times what Clara makes.

35.  In the past thirty years, the population grew from 20,000 to
35  70,000.

In the past thirty years, the population grew three and a half times.
